Marie Curie in Cornwall
Marie Curie has been providing free care and support for millions of terminally ill people and their families for over 70 years.
Marie Curie helps everyone affected by a terminal illness get the information and support they need. There are currently 22 Marie Curie nurses who cover the county of Cornwall. Recruitment is also taking place to increase this number to help us reach more patients. Marie Curie Nurses work night and day in people’s homes across the UK.
We care for people with any terminal illnesses including cancer, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other illnesses.
The charity also provides a wealth of information for someone who is ill as well as family members and friends. The charity has a Support Line (Tel: 0800 090 2309) staffed by trained advisers who can provide emotional support and give trusted information on everything from day-to-day care to financial information and legal issues. Marie Curie also has an online Community where people can share experiences and find support by talking to people in a similar situation.
What’s more, Marie Curie is the leader in research into better ways of caring for people with terminal illnesses and also campaigns on issues that affect people with a terminal illness and their families.
Marie Curie has 9 hospices throughout the UK which offer specialist round-the-clock care.
We rely heavily on voluntary donations to continue providing our services. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and help raise more funds. Fundraising Groups work tirelessly organising national appeals such as The Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Parties and are wonderful ambassadors in their local community for Marie Curie.
